ASHA LAAYA

Asha Layaa is a Model Deaf-Lead farm project under Deaf New American (DNA) which is a Syracuse-based nonprofit organization committed to empowering Deaf Immigrants, Refugees, and Asylum seekers by developing their education, leadership, life skills, and social and mental well-being.

  1. The majority of the Asha Layaa’s farmers belonged to agricultural farming communities. The farming activities, including life skills carried out on DNA’s farm.

  2. Asha Laaya empower and engage the Deaf farmers through agricultural farming. Organic practice and seasonal traditional vegetables produced and sells vegetables . In additional we bring home to share with families.

  3. We now have management over 10 acres of farmland. We seek to empower ourselves, be independent and we hope this Asha Laaya -based project can be an innovative model led by the Deaf and could be expanded in other communities and space for upcoming Deaf New American farmers.

Asha means hope in Nepali and laaya means farm in Burmese

During this season we are preparing for our summer growing season by purchasing traditional seeds.
